A summer storm approaches fast and low over Smith Island, casting long shadows across the marshes as the sunlight fades beneath a growing wall of clouds. I captured this moment from atop an observation tower, alongside fellow photographers Jay Fleming and Jeff Readen, watching as nature transformed the quiet Chesapeake into something fierce and electric.

The wind picked up, the air grew thick with tension, and a strange stillness fell just before the first drops began to fall. Using a wide-angle lens, I framed the storm as it overtook the horizon — swallowing the last rays of sun while the marsh below stood silent and golden in contrast.
