On a calm summer evening, bathed in golden light, I navigated my boat into position to capture one of the Chesapeake’s most iconic pairings — the classic red brick of Sandy Point Lighthouse aligned with the sweeping arches of the Chesapeake Bay Bridge in the distance.

Photographed with a telephoto lens, this image compresses time and space — drawing together two pillars of Bay history: one rooted in 19th-century maritime tradition, the other a symbol of modern engineering and connection. From my low vantage on the water, the composition felt like a visual handshake between past and present.
